Comparing the Automatic Item Selection Procedure and Exploratory Factor Analysis in Determining Factor Structure

It is necessary to supply proof regarding the construct validity of scales. Especially, when new scales are developed researched by Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Generally, factor extraction performed via Principal Component (PCA) which not exactly analysis and Axis Factoring (PAF) among EFA methods. Factors may also be determined with different techniques depending on advances in psychometry. In context nonparametric item response theory, Mokken Scale (MSA) Automatic Item Selection Procedure (AISP) provide significant contributions researchers scale development studies. The aim current study compare AISP methods determining structures. Revised Life Orientation Test, whose structure was previously known validated, draft Expectation from Academics Distance Education Scale, at preliminary stage process unknown structure, were considered this comparison. that consistency findings obtained EFA, ones provided strong evidence ensuring validity.
